Here's the story: it was mid to late April and Steph really wanted to go get groceries. Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of groceries...I'm just not always so keen on grocery shopping. So, like many times before, I decided to stay in the car and wait while she did her thing inside. Sometimes I would bring a book--more times I strapped on the iPod (I'm a little "podcast-obsessed").This particular time I decided to take my camera. The sun was beginning to settle into a nice pink/golden sky and I planned to capture some of that nice light on the horizon while Steph shuffled through frozen entrees and checked to see if cheddar was on sale.
Like any number of times in the past, I was a little too late for that. Just a hint for all you aspiring "golden hour" photographers out there: aim to arrive at your shooting location at least a half-an-hour earlier than you ever think is necessary. You'll be surprised at how many times you'll miss the light when you don't do this!
Back to the story at hand. Having missed my intended horizon shot, I settled in for some talk radio in the car. It was then that I noticed these little birds frolicking in and around the shopping cart corral. I rifled off a dozen frames or so and was reminded of how this area was once theirs--full of trees and meadows instead of metal and asphalt. I like to think of this little bird as having adapted to the present situation, stopping to take a breather on a shopping cart while travelling to the park across town. Then again, maybe he was just waiting on his wife too.
